The Program

The Nonnie Hood Parent Resource Center is a not-for-profit, community-based organization that serves families, caregivers, and employers. The Parent Resource Center provides early childhood developmental information and high quality education, resources, referrals, advocacy, and support to enable effective caregiving and child development. It provides caregivers with one-stop child care resource and referral services and comprehensive education programs that are accessible to a broad population of parents and caregivers in southeast Steuben County. It is composed of three main components:

  • Child Resource and Referral: The Parent Resource Center works in partnership with area child care registries, including the Steuben Child Care Project, to maintain a countywide database of child care providers. Parents in search of childcare may call for referrals to providers who meet the specific needs of their family and for information about how to choose the best care for their child. The Child Resource and Referral service also provides technical assistance and support to Family Child Care Providers by offering an equipment lending service, an Annual Provider Appreciation Dinner, and other resources and incentives.

  • Parent Education Program: The Parent Resource Center recognizes that parents and childcare providers need support, information, and resources more than ever. Our Parent Education Program provides a wide variety of quality seminars on many topics including discipline, stress management, and diversity. Limited childcare is available for most of our evening workshops.

  • Drop-In Center: The Drop-In Center is a unique setting for parents, children, caregivers, and educators to come together and meet in a warm and supportive environment. The Center promotes positive interaction and developmentally appropriate educational opportunities for children ages 0-5, as well as informal networking and educational opportunities for adults. In addition to the many activities in the Center, a Resource library is available to parents, caregivers, and educators. The library is equipped with a large selection of equipment and toys as well as parenting and children's books and videos.
