Research Description

Outcomes
  • By third grade, students whose teachers had received Early Literacy Inservice Course (ELIC) showed significant improvement in reading vocabulary and reading comprehension over students in a control group.  Reading achievement was measured using the CTBS and SAT9 tests.

  • Students whose teachers had more knowledge of Developing Literacy First (DLF is the revised version of ELIC) showed a greater improvement in reading skills than students whose teachers had less exposure.

Tests of Significance were not Reported on the Following outcomes:

  • By third grade, LEP students whose teachers had received ELIC  were writing at grade level.
