The effectiveness of the Articulated Career Guidance Program has been demonstrated by increases in:
  • Student-counselor contacts focusing on career development,
  • Student self-awareness,
  • Ability of students to articulate career options, and
  • Student career exploratory experiences.
 

The Program

The Articulated Career Guidance Program is a comprehensive and dynamic career education program for counselors to use to develop students' self-awareness, values clarification, and career awareness. It is especially effective with junior high or middle school students. The program links educational goals and success with the world of work.

Activities are organized by grade levels, but can be easily adapted for other levels. They are suitable for small groups and classroom presentation. Articulate awareness and skills activities are reinforced at each level.

Professional Development

The D/D trains counseling staff and teachers working with counselors. Training requires one day with demonstrations.

Costs and Funding Options

There is a consultant fee of $300 per day, plus travel and lodging. Manuals are $100 each, with the right to reproduce. Possible funding sources for replication include ESEA Title VI.

Learning Standards
Career Development/ Occupational Studies: 1) be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career-options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes, and abilities to future career decisions; 2) demonstrate how academic knowledge and skills are applied in the workplace and other settings.
